Rob Wildman, President of Broulee Public School P&C, worked with the Gonski Sub-Committee to produce an article for the NSW Federation of P&Cs Journal. It was published in Term 2 this year. You can see it below:
We submitted a short article for the 'I Give a Gonski' blog. You can see it here:
http://www.igiveagonski.com.au/broulee_public_school_gonski The Broulee Public School P&C Gonski Sub-Committee has started a Scoop-it account where we can assemble annotated resources and articles to keep abreast of happenings related to education funding. We try to annotate with a phrase or comment to give insight to the contents of each article. This is a great way to find out background information about why Australia needs fairer funding arrangements for education.
Anyone can access these articles here: http://www.scoop.it/t/p-c-s-for-gonski For those who could not make it to attend the Need To Succeed Symposium in Sydney 'What next for fairer school funding?', I've written a review of the highlight messages, and a copy of my input to the symposium which you'll find in our 'Reports and Letters' tab above.
Broulee PS P&C Gonski Sub-Committee represented at a NSW symposium on fairer school funding25/10/2014 Jesse Rowan has been invited by 'Need to Succeed' to represent our P&C Gonski Sub Committee at a NSW Symposium in Sydney this Thursday.
The Symposium, called 'Need to Succeed: What next for fairer school funding?' is the first of its kind in NSW. She will be joining with principals, teachers, parents, students, systems leaders and not-for-profit organisations to explore new data, discuss why Gonski still matters and hear how NSW is rolling out a needs-based funding model to give all students a chance to learn. Key speakers include NSW Education Minister, the Hon. Adrian Piccoli MP and Dr Ken Boston, Gonski review panellist and representatives from the public, independent and Catholic school sectors. Jesse will be interviewed on stage to describe what our Gonski Sub Committee is planning to do at the grass-roots level to encourage others to join in to support the push for fairer funding. Jesse is well-prepared and excited to be involved at this level of discussion. This a great compliment to our school, to our P&C and to our Gonski Sub Committee. We wish her well! Last term Jesse Rowan published an article in the Scoop calling for interested members to form a Gonski committee. We are happy to report that we have formed a committee. Our committee members are parents Jesse Rowan and Nick Stone, and teachers Nerida Bourke and Tania Dorney.
Jesse is the committee chairperson. She has been involved in the P&C for seven years and has written many letters to politicians on behalf of the P&C. She was disappointed to see two-thirds of the funding that was promised to NSW schools cut after the federal election and decided to take political action. Nick has worked and studied in various education fields for over 30 years, working in schools and universities and in research and training. Nerida has taught for thirty years in NSW public schools and Tania is Broulee’s Learning and Support Teacher. We look forward to keeping in contact with you regarding school funding reform, more commonly known as “Gonski”. We will write short articles about what school funding reform is, what it will mean for our school and other Australian schools and fill you in on what action we have been taking. |
